Proposed strategies in ECODESIGN Assistant

ECODESIGN Assistant - result: product type and strategy recommendation

The result of one cycle with the ECODESIGN Assistant is the product type and strategy recommendation in three categories:

1. Main strategies are most likely to bring expected results. They have the best leverage effect for environmental product improvement. A fast implementation of the improvement measures is recommended.
2. The secondary strategies also have high environmental impact and considerable improvements are expected.
3. Additional strategies could bring additional ecological product improvements.

In the case of the CD cover following main strategies are recommended by the ECODESIGN Assistant:

• Reduction of material inputs
• Increasing product durability
• Recycling of materials

Additionally secondary strategies are proposed. Not all of these strategies are reasonable for the optimization of the CD cover. The appropriate strategies have to be discussed in the team and selected for implementation. Improvement measures for the strategies have to be found after selection. It is recommended to work with the ECODESIGN PILOT checklists (compare example packaging, page 3). The proposed strategies of the Assistant are directly linked with the ECODESIGN PILOT. The last step is to develop concrete improvement measures and ideas for implementation.
