A company introduces a new product on the market and wants to sell a small flower pot with a few sunflower seeds.

Product description:

• Pot made of burnt clay
• Diameter: 27 mm bottom, 47 mm top
• Height: 40 mm
• Weight: 32 g

It is the task of product designers to find an appropriate, innovative and market efficient packaging of the flower pot and at the same time take environmental aspects in the meaning of ECODESIGN into account. First the requirements for the flower pot have to be identified. This is done together with the company, where first ideas emerge on how the packaging could look like.

Company requirements for the packaging of the flower pot:

• The design should go with the flower pot and be innovative.
• The flower pot and the packaging should be usable as an advertising medium.
• The clay pot has to be well protected against damaging.
• The packaging should reflect the image of the company.

These special requirements have to be translated into design parameters so that they will be usable for engineers. An analysis of competitor products is very useful for gaining new ideas.
