Development of a methodology for sustainable evaluation of products for young persons

Within the intended research-education-cooperation pupils shall evaluate the bought and used products of them as well as products of their interest concerning sustainability. The valuation method is based on the three pillars of sustainability: ecology, economy and social impacts (01/09/2008 - 31/01/2010).

Financial support: Bundesministerium für Wissenschaft und Forschung, Programme Sparkling Science

Contact: DI Maria Huber (huber@ecodesign.at)

Development of criteria for quantification of ecological and social impacts of products

The aim of the research project is the publishing of an annual product report "Annual Sustainable Product Report" for the presentation of pathbreaking sustainable product examples of Austrian companies. The development of criteria for a methodical and authentic comparison of products is a central request in the project and the basis for the evaluation of the products (01/07/2008 - 31/12/2009).

Partner: Institut für ökologische Wirtschaftsforschung IÖW

Financial support: Österreichische Nationalbank, Jubiläumsfonds

Contact: DI Maria Huber (huber@ecodesign.at)

Sustainable development of cranes

The aim of the project is an evaluation of the environment and an account analysis of the PK9501 as well as the derivation of a reference product for the estimation of all further already developed and under way being products of the product line of the Palfinger Co. The achieved results shall help in engineering to decide with a definite direction concerning the environmental impacts of the product and the connected costs therewith (05/11/2007 - 05/09/2008).

Partner: Palfinger Service- und Beteiligungs- GmbH

Financial support: Palfinger Service- und Beteiligungs- GmbH

Contact: DI Hesam Ostad (ostad@ecodesign.at)

Green Pipe - Development of an energy-efficient cooling method with utilisation of the lost heat for pipe extrusion

The aim of this project is the development of an energy-efficient cooling method for pipe extrusion. With this method the demand of refrigeration engines will be reduced, the available free cooling will be maximised, the required pumping capacity will be decreased and the lost heat will be utilised by increasing the return temperature of the cooling medium.

ECODESIGN radikal: Innovation through eco-intelligent products

The aim of this project is the distribution of sustainable product development/ECODESIGN in order to increase the resource efficiency of the Austrian economy and to open up innovation potentials. Besides there shall be held serial workshops throughout Austria which support companies with the development of eco-intelligent products. These serial workhops contain six workshops which shall motivate companies through demonstrating successful eco-intelligent products to integrate sustainablity in the development of products of their own. By means of practical product examples which were developed by the ECODESIGN team of the UT in collaboration with industry partners in the last years it shall be shown how sustainable product development can be implemented in the corporate practice.
